Film London

London has an indelible place in the history of film and television. Many of the world's greatest film-makers are Londoners. From Charlie Chaplin and Alfred Hitchcock, David Lean and Nicolas Roeg, to contemporary talents such as Gurinder Chadha and Christopher Nolan, London has always been a font of film-making talent.

London is one of the most recognisable film and TV locations. From the back streets of Blackmail, through the swinging London of Alfie, to contemporary hits such as Match Point, Closer and 28 Days Later, the city of London is a unique backdrop to an enormous range of work on screen. And London's major studios - from Pinewood and Shepperton to 3 Mills - have a unique place within the industry, not least through the enduring legacy of the Ealing comedies.

Film London is the capital's film and media agency. Funded by the UK Film Council and the London Development Agency. We support the growth and development of all the screen industries based in the capital - film, television, video, commercials and new interactive media. Our aim is simple: to sustain, promote and develop London as a major international film-making and film cultural capital.

Film London was formed on 17 March 2003 under the aegis of the UK Film Council and the London Development Agency, the Mayor of London's development arm. Film London also benefits from significant funding from the European Regional Development Fund and Arts Council England London, and works closely with a number of partners, including Skillset and Visit London.

Sandy Lieberson was appointed as Chairman of the Board in March 2003 and Chief Executive Adrian Wootton joined in May that year. The agency was officially launched in April 2004 by Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London.

Film London subsumed the roles of two previously existing organizations: the London Film Commission (LFC) and the London Film Video and Development Agency (LFVDA). The London Film Commission was established in November 1995. Its remit was to help all film-makers working in London, specifically with locations support. The London Film and Video Development Agency was formed in 1992. For over a decade the LFVDA provided a range of support, advise, funding and information to numerous organizations, projects and individual film-makers.
